The Good Old Days - the cartoons that made our childhood great

Welcome to a new feature ‘The Good Old Days’, where we will look at some of the most interesting things that went on back in the days. Some call it ‘Throw back, others ‘Flash back’. This will include TV Series, cartoons, fashion trends etc. Due to the advancement of technology (phones, computers, social media) most of the kids today have no idea how fun it was back in the days. From time to time, we will relieve those memories and also teach the newbies how great our days were. Enjoy the first episode of The Good Old Days.


These animated series below are some of great cartoons that made our childhoods almost perfect, especially from the 90’s to the early 2000’s. Hope you enjoy.

1. Captain Planet

Captain Planet and the Planeteers was an American animated environmentalist television program which aired on our TV stations and was enjoyed by many. The series was a  form of  edutainment which advocated environmentalism, that is, It was geared towards educating the public from polluting the environment. Captain planet, he's a hero lalalalala....Goooo planet!

2. Scooby-Doo

This was also an American animated cartoon franchise, which featured four teenagers - Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Norville Shaggy Roggers and their talking brown dog, Scooby-Doo. These teenagers and their dog solved  mystereis involving supposedly supernatural creatures through a series of antics and missteps. Scoooby dubyduby dooooo!


3. Tintin

This was a cartoon series involving a courageous young Belgian reporter and adventure called Tintin. He was aided by his faithful dog Snowy, brash and cynical Captain Haddock , an intelligent but hearing-impaired Professor Calculus as well as the incompetent twin detectives Thompson and Thompson. I hope you remember Haddock's catchy phrases -blistering barnacles, thundering typhoons

4. The Flintstones

This is an American animated sitcom which depicted life in a romanticized stone age setting. It involved Fred Flinstone and his family, their next-door neighbors and best friends. One of the cherished cartoon series of the old. Yabba dabba doooo!


5. The Powerpuff Girls.

This cartoon series is an American animated TV series that centered on Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, three girls with superpowers as well as ther father, the brainy scientist Professor Utonium. The girls are frequently called upon by the town's childlike and naive mayor to help fight nearby criminals using their powers.

6. Teletubbies

This is a Bristich pre-school children's TV series which was normally shown on Saturday morning on our TV stations back in the early 2000's. The programme focused on four multi-coloured creatures known as 'Teletubbies' named for the television implanted in their abdomens. They communicated through gibberish and singing and were designed to  bear resemblance to young children. Ah awwww

7. Superbook

This series also known as Animated Parent and Child Theatre is a TV series initially produced in Japan in conjunction with the Christian Broadcasting Network in the US but more recently produced solely by CBN. The series chronicled the events of the Bible's Old and New Testaments. A very educative Christian series which presented Biblical stories as simple as possible mainly for kids to understand the word of God.

8. Tom and Jerry

This is an American animated series of short films which centered on a rivalry between its tow characters, Tom and Jerry and many recurring characters based around slapstick comedy. Who didn't love this animated series? Personally, one of my favorites.

9. SpongeBob Square Pants

This is an American animated TV series which featured SpongeBob, a titular character and protagonist. SpongeBob is depicted as being a good-natured, optimistic, naive and enthusiastic yellow sea sponge residing in the undersea city of bikini Bottom alongside an array of anthropomorphic aquatic creatures.
